An Eye For An Eye

I had my eye on a giant ferris wheel at Titiwangsa lake, overlooking the city with the Petronas Twin Towers in the background. That’s the Eye on Malaysia (a copycat of another famous eye in a city in another part of the world). The skies were grey and the evening was cool after a mild rain. Great for a rendezvous in the park. Joggers whizzed past us. There were families enjoying a cool evening walk. Couples huddled together at the edge of the lake taking in the sights and the cool evening breeze.
My friend and I took a slow walk and goofed around with our cameras. Took some nice shots of the Eye. Some tourist attractions always become a sight for wedding photography. Well there was one that evening! The lady had an interesting dress with a short bubble skirt. She wore sneakers instead of a pair of killer stilettos..which I suppose help ease all the walking around the park as they try out different angles for the photo shoot.

We stopped for drinks at the Eye CafĂ© whilst waiting for another friend to turn up for the ride. Yes…Eye Cafe…what next? Everything has the 'Eye' here.

I have a fear of heights, mild one though (fear of walking across a pedestrian overhead bridge and riding the ferris wheel). Didn't think it would be a problem for me to pass this ride.

We had a gondola all to ourselves (during peak hours, you may have to share one with other passengers). It was comfortable with air-conditioning..we really need this in Malaysia (it has been horribly hot and humid for the past few weeks). The ride was smooth. It suddenly came to a halt when our gondola reached the top (at about 90 degrees angle). I suddenly became stiff. I glanced nervously at the window and noticed we were really very high up there. I started to cold sweat on my hands and....gasp even in my underarms. My friends reassured me that it was going to be okay. If not, I would still have to sit through that 20 minute ride or risk embarrassing myself by calling for an emergency disembarkation. I was told to busy myself with the camera to take my attention off the height problem. I couldn’t...because I couldn't pry my cold fingers away from seat. I wondered why in the world I was clutching onto my seat..not that it was going to be blown away or something…hahhha. Guess you just hold onto something or anything when in fear in mid-air!

As the ride progressed, my fears subsided and I was able to laugh and smile for the camera but was still glued to my seat.

My friend, SGW turned out to be fearful of heights albeit, to a lesser degree compared to me. Another friend C, wanted to snap photos of us both so she asked us to switch over to the other side from where we seated (SGW and I were seated across from each other). We could not as we sat glued to our seats in fear. The thought of moving out from our seats was just so scary. We all burst out laughing when we realized that these two phobics could not even switch seats! Boy…it was hilarious. Our friend conceded by taking turns to seat next to us and have the photos taken.

Thinking back….that was the longest 20 minutes up in that giant turning wheel. But you know what...I have no regrets. I am game for another spin on the Eye....really.

I'm confused between Eye Cafe and Nelayan. Where is Nelayan Restaurant? Was there a Nelayan Restaurant in Titiwangsa several years ago?

It's actually good experience in life time!
Try the SG Eyes If you happen there, the wheel is much higher. Design different too. :)

Hey, I thought they were supposed to dismantle The Eye since January because the residents complained of the noise and traffic pollution.

Too funny - you described to the letter how I react when faced with ferris wheels or anything like it!

I've always wanted to go on the London Eye, but now I'm wondering.... :) I think I'll be all right if the gondolas are sturdy and stable.

Ok I have to know more about this Eye Cafe. There are eyes in everything??? In the title of the food names or the actual dishes have actual eyes in them???

My Bug Life said...

Dineometer deb: I didn't scrutinize the dishes bt dun think they've got eyes in them...eek. What I meant was the touristy stuff that they sell hav got resemblance of the Eye (i.e. ferris wheel)..u know how it's like with tourist attractions..a replica of everything possible.

Thanks for dropping by!
