Little Town

This is a first of my series of travel stories to One Island, which I shall talk about later...stay tuned to FoodienTravelBug if you want to find out more..;) We started our journey from the city and stopped for brunch in Bidor, a small town in the state of Perak, a journey which took us 1.5 hours.

I like this little town with its old pre-war buildings like the colourful ones photographed above. Most of these buildings look rather run down but there is still old world charm in them. You will find old coffeeshops, bakery, sundry and jewellery shops in these pre-war buildings.

Bidor is known as an industrial area and if you travel north from this town, you will see lots and lots of oil palm and rubber plantation with extensive greenery. This little town is also known for a much talked about dish - duck thigh noodles served in a herbal soup at Pun Chun coffeeshop. MBL begs to differ..I didn't really like it because the duck tasted rather gamey and the noodles were overcooked on that day. But I liked the herbal soup...:D

MBL signing off now...just got back and feeling very tired..*yawn*

Hey, it's really called 'One' Island! Anyway, those photos really look like S'pore's Chinatown before its refurbishment, which was rather tasteless really...

Yeah, like CK, I'm still wondering where is this One Island.

Interestingly, these linked shophouses can be found in every town in Malaysia where there are Chinese folks. They are in fact reflective of Chinese presence. I have yet to see a non-Chinese family living in such a house. Nice shots, MBL. Hope you enjoyed your holiday. Looking forward to upcoming posts.

these old building have character. My hometown (predominantly Chinese inhabited) still has a few rows of these old shophouses, but I'm guessing it will make way for new buildings someday. Pity.

Love this type of little town. The buildings are similar to those in Singapore.

Ever since the highway was completed, Bidor is a dead town. Sigh...
