Insect fact of the day? Dragonflies are ancient insects as they are one of the earliest to roam the earth. Dinosaurs have become creatures of the distant past and yet these insects have survived to this day.
They are creatures of the day, relying very much on the sun as they move gracefully in the air.. like ballerinas of the air! Dragonflies need the sun to fly (except for certain species that hunt at night). These creatures will alight when the sun dips or goes behind clouds.
This little fella in my photo must be enjoying a moment of rest and solitude..perched atop a sharp pointed edge of a plant.

Dragon flies. I love these insects. When I was small, I usually catch them and feed them with grass. Ha =)
And dragon flies are the fastest insects of them all, followed by the noisy mosquito. I think so. Ha =)
Like Tekkaus, I love these little fellas too - they bring so many fond memories. They come in many colours - green, blue, yellow/orangy, red and dark purple. Thank you for the memories, MBL.
