Mural On The Wall

I am not an artsy person but I do enjoy looking at paintings whenever I come across good ones. One that caught my attention was this Mural On The Wall at Las Carretas, a Mexican restaurant. This beautiful mural covers part of the interior of the restaurant and it creates a Mexican ambience to the whole restaurant (there were also other interesting knick knacks with a Mexican theme). A mural is a painting on a permanent surface such as a wall or ceiling. The mural became well-known under the Mexican art movement of Rivera and Siqueiros. The best known technique used in painting a mural is the fresco - using water soluble paint with a damp lime wash (colours lighten as the paint dries up).

Today's murals are painted using oil and water based media as well as the use of images on poster paper plastered onto the wall surface. In some ways murals are different from paintings. A mural is public art. You don't need to set foot in an art gallery to view them and there's also a wider audience admiring the artist's work. Murals also convey powerful messages and help to beautify many cities. You can spot a mural or two right where you live and work in most parts of the world.

The Mural On The Wall depicts the Mexican culture - pretty dancer and men in sombreros at a marketplace selling corn and flowers. To view this mural, dine at Las Carretas.

Lovely mural. Thanks for sharing it, MBL.

I was at IKEA today and enjoyed myself admiring their paintings and prints. As usual, long queues at the cashier's.
