Wise Up

I have a decision to make. An important one. I had put this on hold hoping that somehow that thing will remain dormant and I never have to deal with it. The pain of having to make that decision came back to remind me last week when I mentioned about having a sore throat in my earlier post titled Water Girl. Well, on top of that sore throat, I had swollen gum (the size of a mini balloon on my right lower gum), which made swallowing food a painful task. Couple of years ago, I had my wisdom tooth removed on my left lower jaw. That extraction was finally done after a couple of “swollen gum” episodes. Now, I have another wisdom tooth waiting to be surgically removed. The process of extraction is entirely different from surgical removal. The latter’s more complicated, requires stronger anesthesia and stitching. That’s why I am forestalling the idea of surgery and have prayed that somehow a miracle would happen and that this tooth would remain dormant. Right now, I am not quite sure my prayers would be answered so I may consider blocking a date on my calendar for a date with the dental surgeon.

What are wisdom teeth and why do they pose so much problems? These well-known molars are positioned at the very back of the mouth and they usually grow when a person reaches between 17 to 20 years of age…supposedly wise by then. Wisdom teeth are not troublesome if they are healthy and positioned in the right manner. The one I am contemplating to remove is well….positioned horizontally. Imagine a large molar growing horizontally in your gums! I was told the surgeon would need to make an incision on my gum and remove that tooth. When I heard that...I mentally decided that it should remain dormant. According to my dental records, the last time I had swollen gums in that same spot was 2 years ago. Now, my tooth may be calling me…it’s time to get me outta here!!

Now that I am finishing my last dose of antibiotics for the swollen gum…I have to make that decision sooner or later…or I can wait and see if the pain comes back. I don’t think waiting for another bout of pain is worth it so I shall be a wise girl and start calling up the surgeon soon.

What about you? What are your personal experiences on the tooth of wisdom?

Sounds painful, but maybe it's best to be done with the surgery, kan?

I guess I'm lucky to have it correctly positioned.

Anyway, take care!

Damm! Sound so scary o. I still remembered once when I payed my "nightmare" visit to the dental. I had a rotten teeth and it needed to be removed. So the doctor have to jab anesthetic into my gum to prevent the pain. But heck, the needles that puncture into my gums are already a hell. Ha =) I actually cried. LOL. That was like 10 years ago. Anyway take care my bug life. Hopefully God listened to your prayers and let your wise teeth become not so "Wise" then. =)

I have so far no problems with my wisdom teeth. Thank god. Well, I don't really like visiting the dentist, but in your case, i think you better get the tooth out. Good luck!! : )
