Boy And Girl

One of my latest projects last weekend was learning to photograph people off the streets. I have always felt that photographing people was a challenge - in capturing the mood and emotions of a person. It was a just shoot and learn moment for me. Here are my favourite shots of a boy and a girl.

This is a photo of a boy taken at a community event. I was fortunate to have caught this moment as he smiled and looked sideways :)
A girl dressed in a pretty kimono at the same community event waiting for her mom. She looked kinda bored don't you think?

There you have it, a smile and a frown. Have a great Monday!

Lovely portraits. Great emotion. For some reason, whenever I try to shoot random people on the street, I get nervous that they'll notice me and say something. Holds me back, I think.

Thanks Hayley...I get that kind of feeling too sometimes...I can't shoot well and I don't enjoy the process once I feel nervous or sense some kind of restriction.

i share your challenge, people photography is very difficult for me since i am not comfortable in taking someone's picture without their permission, unless it is my family and candid shot, i would be okay and i will show it to them. i always find candid shots bring the best of emotions, just like what you captured. like you, i don't also enjoy the process since i do not only feel nervous but also guilty :( but i'd like to practice this one too for family.

thanks so much for the well wishes.

Candid shots are the best. They capture real emotions. Great shots, MBL. Love the color of the kimono too.

well, I can feel the heat the girl was feeling looking at your photo. :)

Nice portraits ! Great capture of their expressions and emotions !

Street portrait photography can be very challenging to photographers, due to differences in cultures and society and even due to the inhibition of the photographer themself (happened to me too!)

Consider exploring with the background scene to reinforce thhe portrait image that you want to capture.

Keep shooting & sharing :)

Thanks everyone for your compliments and comments. Really appreciate them.

Thanks Jinghui..I'll definitely consider exploring...to improve my shots :)

Dong: Can be risky but sometimes we stand to gain from experiencing it rather than merely hearing or seeing it through someone else's experience :)

Wow! You are getting really good at taking photographs! These pictures can be mistaken for those photos I find in travel books or books on culture and history. Maybe I should learn to take photos and get a real camera! : )

I like the smiling boy better than the other portrait. I find it picture perfect. The angle, emotion, effect and it totally gave a very realistic and natural feel.

this shots are wonderful... Bravo.

Some time people know that your taking shot and don't mind, but others... ufff... some weeks a go on a market I had some problems for shooting around some sellers...

Now if theirs the risk of getting "caught" I always ask... ;-)

Nice shots! I believe the most difficult part in photography is taking the picture of living things like human and animal because they are moving all the times and have emotion. But you have done that excellently!
